Last night at our Cancer Auxiliary board meeting, I turned in my registration for the 13.1 In Their Shoes walk for breast cancer that is taking place in Athens on November 8, 2008.
To date, the AACA team has 12 walkers and fundraising goal of $12,000 ($1000) each.
The walk is in its third year and was started by two Athens-area breast cancer survivors. The friends received so much help and support from the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at Athens Regional Medical Center that they wanted to do something to repay the dedicated staff and volunteers once they finished their treatment. The decided they would share in a mission to raise awareness about breast cancer in younger women and the importance of self-examination and early detection and thus, the walk was born.
If you are interested in learning more about the walk, participating or sponsoring a walker...say, me for instance, visit In Their Shoes, AACA or email me!

This fundraiser was incredibly well run and raised more than $120,000 for the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support, an invaluable ressource in our community!
