Plexus Creative Director, Kim Landrum, is celebrating the launch of Mini Marathoners at the Junior League's Family Health Day on April 10, 2010. Designed as a fitness program for elementary-aged kids, Mini Marathoners encourages children and their families to achieve overall wellness through fitness and nutrition.
Plexus is a proud supporter of the Mini Marathoners program which teaches kids how to lead a healthy lifestyle and achieve long-term fitness goals through commitment and consistency. Program participants commit to running or walking 13.1 or 26.2 miles over a 13 or 26-week period, eating healthy foods and encouraging family and friends to do the same.
"My hope is to educate children about the importance of fitness and nutrition in their everyday lives, and encourage a sense of physical and psychological well being through endurance sports such as running and triathlon," said Kim Landrum, founder of the Mini Marathoners program. "I had this idea four years ago while training for a marathon. At the time my son was two so I held on to the idea and nurtured it in my mind. As he's grown and I've become more involved with triathlon and endurance sports in Athens, I knew the time was right to make this idea a reality. Childhood obesity is widespread but preventable. It's never too early to teach our kids about the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition."
