Beauties, Brains & the Tech Grad

By Bryan Harris

When starting her business in October of 1997, Stephanie Sharp chose the name Plexus, which means “network” or a combination of interlaced parts. She chose it because her company’s niche in the marketplace would be to create web sites and other web applications that kept businesses connected – to their customers and to each other. The word Plexus is also applicable to the staff at Plexus Web Creations. They come from different places and offer different skills, but their “combination of interlaced parts” has made them a company on the leading edge of the web design world. You know their work, but we wanted to give you the opportunity to get to know the people behind the computer screens that make your company’s website work

Stephanie Sharp

Tired of driving to Atlanta every day, Stephanie decided that it was time to do something different. After flirting with the idea of joining Pro Bowling Tour, she came to her senses and founded Plexus Web Creations. The company she has founded has serviced over 250 clients with award-winning web design and database development. The Warner Robins native graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in accounting and has completed advanced-level coursework in statistics, research and user interface design. She is married to Buck Sharp, Creative Director at Plexus and they have two children, Emma and Erin. Stephanie still keeps her PBA dreams alive by bowling in a league on Tuesday nights.

Buck Sharp

On a given day at the palatial new offices of Plexus Web Creations, a giggle can be heard in the back corner of the space as Buck Sharp, Creative Director of Plexus, watches the “Lazy Sunday” clip from Saturday Night Live for the 6,348th time. When he is actually working, the Greenville SC native designs most of what the public sees from the web sites created by Plexus. In addition to graphic design, Buck also works on user interfaces, which enhance the experience the end-user has on a given web site. While his brother was deployed in Iraq, Buck designed and maintained www.gatorsiniraq.com, a web log for the VMFA-142 Flying Gators, which allowed the soldiers and their families to communicate on a daily basis. If you come by the office to visit Buck, please bring him a snack because “Mr. Pibb and Red Vines = Crazy delicious.”

Adam Parrott

Adam, senior software architect, has been with Plexus for six years. Most days he can be found in his corner of the office, saddled up to his computer and listening to his iPod, which (rumor has it) is loaded wit ABBA and Celine Dion songs. When he’s not building web applications or troubleshooting server-related issues, Adam can be found potty training Ella, his chocolate lab puppy, or honing his skills as a still-life photographer. Adam and his wife Hollis were married last summer, and despite inviting the entire Plexus Staff, the event went off without a hitch. Should you visit the Plexus office, be warned that Adam has a seriously crazy nut allergy and won’t let anyone touch his keyboard for fear of reliving his last encounter with granola. He also knows A LOT about cars. If you’re nice, you can get an oil change and a new web site in the same visit.

Kim Landrum (aka Kim Bancroft)

Kim came to Plexus almost two years ago after she tired of the big city life in Tifton. Along with Buck, she helps shape the visual side of Plexus as a designer for print and web. Kim is from Philadelphia, although she moved to Birmingham as a child and claims she’s a southerner. She has a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Auburn (then again, who doesn’t have a “degree” from Auburn) and a master’s degree in photography from UGA. Kim and her husband Joel (Mad Dog) have been married for five years and have a son, Aidan.

Worse than a song, I admit to knowing the entire Raffi CD “Singable Songs for the Very Young.” Are the days of Guided By Voices, Pavement and Yo La Tengo gone forever?

What web site do you consider a must visit?
Nike. It’s visual candy and utilitarian at the same time. Every time to visit it is a completely different experience.

Shawn Veader

Shawn is a senior software architect for Plexus. He was born in Spokane, WA but his family relocated to Winder as a child. In his misguided attempt to get a high-quality education, he attended Georgia Tech and somehow secured a degree in computer science. Despite this lack of judgment in his choice of institutions of higher learning, he was allowed to join the Plexus team – as long as he subdued his urge to wear “Old Gold” and Navy to the office.

What shows are currently on your TiVo Season Pass?
(Shawn has a “Fake Tivo”) He won’t miss Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, Alias and The Simpsons.

Travis Roberts

Travis is the newest member of the Plexus team. He is from the little town of Concord, Georgia and found his way to Athens after stops in most towns east of the Mississippi. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and is currently working on his master’s in internet technology. Although not married, Travis’ girlfriend of almost four years (Lauren) can be seen holding a tree in a picture next to his computer. She goes to Vanderbilt, so we assume that she is really smart. To lessen the rejection he felt as a child, Travis and his “cool” friends created their own fraternity and web site www.respectalumni.com. Travis recently started running...keep an eye out for him and his unfashionably metallic blue shoes.
